NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan Receives Ambassador of Netherlands

On April 29, the Vice President of the National Assembly Hakob Arshakyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Armenia Nico Schermers.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament congratulated the friendly people of the Netherlands on the occasion of the National Day of the Netherlands.

Speaking about bilateral cooperation, Hakob Arshakyan highlighted the study of the experience of the parliamentary government of the Netherlands.

Touching upon the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, the NA Vice President highly appreciated the principled and consistent position of the Dutch Parliament in the process of recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, which testifies to the commitment of the Netherlands in preserving universal values and preventing crimes against humanity.

Hakob Arshakyan presented the situation created after the 44-day war. He noted that important humanitarian issues have not been resolved yet. Those are the issues of prisoners of war being held in Azerbaijan and the proper preservation of the historical, cultural and religious heritage of Artsakh, which should be under the attention of European partners.

Nico Schermers spoke about the need to deepen bilateral ties, presented the programs implemented by the Embassy in Armenia aimed at democracy, protection of human rights and strengthening the rule of law.

The sides highlighted the deepening of Armenia-Netherlands cooperation within the framework of the implementation of the European Union-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. Hakob Arshakyan spoke about the RA-EU visa liberalization process and expressed hope that the Netherlands would express its political support in this issue.

Issues related to the deepening of relations between the parliaments of the two countries, the opportunities to expand cooperation in different fields were discussed.

The Secretary of the NA Civil Contract Faction Artur Hovhannisyan, the deputies Hasmik Hakobyan and Meri Galstyan were present at the meeting.
