Protocol Presented by Government Aimed at Combating Illegal Migration Debated

The Protocol between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Lithuania on the Implementation of the Agreement between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union on Readmission of Persons Residing without Authorization envisages a number of rules for the implementation of the readmission process of citizens.

The issue on ratifying the Protocol was debated at the extraordinary sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations on April 22.

The Head of Migration Service of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Armen Ghazaryan said that the competent bodies of the parties, the state border crossing points, the means of communication, the documents submitted in connection with the readmission application, the procedure for organizing interviews, if necessary, the documentary requirements of a person subject to readmission submitted during the transfer, the submission of transit applications and a number of other issues are defined.

According to the rapporteur, the adoption of the document will be important for the development of cooperation in the field of bilateral migration, including the fight against illegal migration.

The co-rapporteur, the Committee member Sargis Khandanyan, highlighting the initiative, urged his colleagues to vote in favor of it.

The Committee approved the initiative.
