1 / 4

On February 22, the RA NA Vice President, the NA Acting President Hakob Arshakyan received the delegation led by the Co-Chair of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (PA) Andrius Kubilius. The Head of the RA National Assembly delegation to the Assembly Maria Karapetyan and the member of the delegation Arman Yeghoyan attended the meeting.

Welcoming the guests, Hakob Arshakyan has noted that our country attaches great importance to this parliamentary format, which is a firm between the European Union and the Eastern Partnership countries for the advancement of the general agenda. In this context the NA Vice President emphasized the close cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union, particularly within the framework of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, which entered into force from March 1, 2021.

The NA Vice President highlighted the circumstance that the European Union expressed readiness to allocate financial package of 2.6bln Euros to Armenia to promote the changes in the spheres of infrastructure, the digital agenda, climate, transport and the implementation of democratic reforms.

Hakob Arshakyan referred to the irreversible consequences of 44-day war: human losses, humanitarian problems and destruction of cultural and religious heritage.

He has underlined that, unfortunately, there are still prisoners of war and other detainees in Azerbaijan, who should be unreservedly repatriated. “This is a violation of the trilateral statement signed by the heads of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia,” the NA Vice President said.

“We continue to be faithful to the comprehensive and stable settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict through peaceful negotiations under the mandate of the OSCE Minks Group Co-Chairmanship our position and we reaffirm the establishment of the stable peace in the region,” Hakob Arshakyan noted.

He expressed conviction that the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly would support the establishment of peace and stability, and the legislators would use the whole toolset of the parliamentary diplomacy.

The Co-Chair of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Andrius Kubilius thanked the Armenian side for the warm reception and organizing the PA works at high level. He emphasized the achievements of Armenia in democracy, fight against corruption and the reforms being implemented in a number of spheres. Andrius Kubilius also attached importance to the establishment of the lasting and stable peace in the region.
