On January 5, the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs organized a working debate dedicated to the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. The RA First Deputy Minister of Justice, the candidate for the position of the RA Human Rights Defender Kristinne Grigoryan and the organizations involved in the Inclusive Coalition for Legal Reforms participated in the debate.
The participants of the debate noted that last year parliament adopted the RA Law on Rights of Persons with Disabilities. However, the problems of persons with disabilities are numerous and multi-layered. Persons with various disabilities face many problems and obstacles in daily life, which limit their right to receive full and equal education and the opportunity to find a job. It has been stated that very often employers unreasonably refuse to hire persons with disabilities. As a very serious problem, the participants of the debate have also underlined the issue of physical accessibility of the environment, adding that even the Office of the Human Rights Defender and the buildings of the state administration bodies are not tailored to their needs.
The RA First Deputy Minister of Justice, the candidate for the position of the RA Human Rights Defender Kristinne Grigoryan attached importance to the meeting, referring to the raised problems. She assured that in case of being elected in the position of the Human Rights Defender, they will be at the center of her attention, and she will try to support their solution within the framework of her competences.
