Amendments to Let the Schools to Raise Pedagogical Autonomy, Set Its Own Educational Plans

At December 16 NA extraordinary sitting, the deputies in the first reading debated the amendments being proposed to the law on General Education authored by the Government.

According to the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan, the Ministry proposes amendments of principle in several directions. The first one refers to the content of the general education. Here that task is to compare the knowledge taught at school with skills, values and positions. According to the rapporteur, the amendments will let schools to raise pedagogical autonomy and to set its own educational plans. Innovations are designed in the inclusive education sector, from the change of the peculiar conditions of education up to financing. The next on the list is the amendment of the teachers’ professional development system in the context of certification. “This year the voluntary certification process has been tested, and the amendments being proposed will let to expand the certification tools,” Zhanna Andreasyan underlined.

The Deputy Minister singled out the sphere of management. Here it is designed to separate the director’s functions on administrative-economy and content. The administrative-economic management will be carried out in the centralized order, and the directors will be reserved only the items of education quality and content.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing (Head) Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Sisak Gabrielyan presented the endorsement of the Committee.
