On November 3, the members of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs met with the co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by Armenia Kimmo Kiljunen and Boriana Åberg.

The co-rapporteurs were interested in the reforms in the judicial system of our country, amendments to the RA Electoral Code and problems of the freedom of speech.

The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan joined the participants of the meeting and welcomed by video conference. He noted that the plans for the implementation of legislative reforms in a number of spheres were hampered by the pandemic and 44-day war. Vladimir Vardanyan referred to the problems of the freedom of speech in our country and highlighted the legislative tightening established for insult and swearing. According to the Committee Chair, reforms are always needed in the judicial system which will promote to the development of the sphere.

The Committee members Artur Davtyan, Arpine Davoyan and Vigen Khachatryan highlighted the revolution that took place in Armenia in 2018, as a result of which there were positive developments in the domestic political life. After the revolution, the legislative reforms launched in different spheres are continuous. Aram Vardevanyan spoke about the severe consequences of the 44-day war, the return of the captives and the encroachments on the borders of our country by the Azerbaijani armed forces.
