The President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received the Vice President of the Senate of Italy Paola Taverna.

Welcoming the guest, Ararat Mirzoyan thanked Mrs Taverna for arriving in Armenia to implement observation mission and remembered that the latter also observed 2018 December snap parliamentary elections. The President of the National Assembly has added that these elections are aimed at solving the tense inner-political situation followed the tripartite statement of November 9 of the previous year.

Thanking the NA President for the reception, the Vice President of the Senate of Italy expressed hope that the citizens would make their choice, as a result of which, a new phase of stability would begin in the country.

The sides discussed the situation created around Nagorno Karabakh, the importance of the return of prisoners of war and other detained persons, and in that issue the participation of the international colleagues, the encroachment carried out towards the territory of the Republic of Armenia, and issues on resuming the peaceful negotiations under the auspice of the OSCE Minsk Group Chairmanship. The Italian side expressed readiness for involving in the works of preservation of the Armenian cultural heritage.

At the end of the meeting both parties recorded with satisfaction the high level of the Armenian-Italian friendly relations.
