Addendum on Providing Fake Information by Officials in Criminal Code
1 / 7

At April 30 sitting of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs the bill on Making Addendum to the RA Criminal Code authored by the NA deputy Gevorg Petrosyan.

As the key rapporteur has assessed the state servant should show restraint and responsibility in voicing information of public importance.

According to the Committee Chair Vladimir Vardanyan, if there is legislative regulation on information regarding the national security, then the circle of the issues of public interest is inclusive. Underlining that the society should get distinct and corresponding to reality information from the state bodies, the rapporteur opined that the regulation would not assist the solution of the problems. He proposed to be deprived of the adoption of the draft law at this moment.

The RA Deputy Minister of Justice Armen Hovhannisyan presented the conclusion of the Government.

In their speeches the deputies Nikolay Baghdasaryan, Sergey Atomyan, Nazeli Baghdasaryan and Sisak Gabrielyan touched upon the possible risks of the draft law and the restrictions of publicizing information on the national security.

As a result of debates, the initiative was not endorsed.
