Stricter Punishments for High Treason and Espionage

At February 4 sitting of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs moderated by Vladimir Vardanyan, the legislative initiative designing strictness of punishments envisaged for treason and espionage was debated. The deputies Vahe Enfiajyan, Naira Zohrabyan and Iveta Tonoyan authored the amendments being proposed in the RA Criminal Code.

The Committee proposed to establish 15-20 years of imprisonment for high treason by levying property or without it, or life imprisonment, and 12-20 years of imprisonment for espionage.

The amendments being proposed to the law on Petitions were also considered.

The amendments to the law on Public Council proposes that from now on the Public Council Secretariat will ensure its activity in the sub-division of the structure of the Prime Minister's Staff.

The executive body accepted the recommendation of the technical-editorial amendment submitted by the Ministry of Justice and the Experts Group of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs during the period from the first to the second reading.

The debated, revised draft laws were endorsed.
