Drafts of the Constitutional Amendments Debated in the Youth Parliament

On April 28, the 6th sitting of the Youth Parliament was held. Before touching upon the agenda issues, Astghik Simonyan informed that on April 12-15 the Youth Parliamentarians participated at the writer’s annually meeting, and Husik Aray was recognized a prize winner in the result of the debates. NA MP Hranush Hakobyan was recognized as a best political figure, implementing programs among the youth.

The agenda of the 6th sitting of the Youth Parliament after being presented and approved by Zhanna Mirzoyan, the regular chairperson, the report of the works done by the Youth Parliament after the previous sitting was submitted.

The main issue debated in the sitting, related to the Constitutional amendments: Youth Parliamentarian Armine Kharatyan, represented the coalition and “People’s Deputy” group joint submitted draft, and the NA MP Grigor Ghonjeyan submitted the draft of the faction “ULP.” The speakers conditioned the constitutional amendments with the necessity of the democracy, right superiority and freedoms’ affirmation, separating of the power’s wings, the necessity of the affirmation of the mechanisms of the people’s participation in the governing of the country.

The young Parliamentarians’ inspiration and awareness of proposed Constitutional amendments were expressed in various questions, which have not only the aim to be clarified but stressed attitude towards this or that problem. They were related to the education, restrictions of the MPs’ activities, dual citizenship, the formation of the powers, their separating and balance.

In the sitting the issue of the Youth Parliamentarians, who have invalid absents was also discussed, and it was decided, according to the Rules of Procedure, to stop their participation in the further activities of the Youth Parliament.
