On Friday, March 18 preceding the NA four-day sittings, Hranush Hakobyan, Chairwoman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth, informed the journalists on the results of the working deliberations, which was taken place in parliament.

12 issues are proposed to be put on the agenda of the 5th session, 39 issues and 10 international treaties - on the agenda of March 21-24 regular four-day sittings. 6 bills and 3 agreements of the agenda of the four-day sittings are ready to be voted.

Chairwoman of the Committee drew the journalists’ attention to some legislative initiatives authorized by deputies and executive authority.

In particular, Hranush Hakobyan proposed to make amendments to the Law“On RA Holidays and Remembrance Days,” proclaiming the February 21 “Holiday of the Native Language.” She explained that the day was chosen because it is already marked by the United Nations and internationally as a Day of the native language. She also proposed to put on the agenda the draft on making addenda to the law “On Export and Import of Cultural Property.” The Chairwoman of the Committee highlighted the government-submitted draft law “On Primary (handicraft) and Middle Specialized Education and Training,” which is the component of educational reforms, and among with other laws will become basis for creation of educational code. The executive once again touched upon the educational problem by the amendment proposal to the law “On Social Protection of the Disabled in RA.” In this case the state undertakes to provide the deaf and blind children with textbooks free of charge.

The coalition authorized bill “On State Assistance to Big Families” was also in the draft law of the four-day sittings. It fixes the policy of the state support of big families, and with it an attempt is made to encourage the growth of the population.

As Mrs. Hakobyan presented, in the course of four-day sittings it is envisaged also to discuss the drafts concerning the agricultural and ecological spheres.

During the four-day sittings it is envisaged to present the MPs the reports on the activity of “RA Civil Service in 2004” and “On the Activity of RA Public Radio TV Council in 2004.”
