At the opening of the sitting the anthem of the Republic of Armenia sounded.

In the opening speech Hranush Hakobyan, the NA deputy, Chairman of the Committee noted that the creation of the Youth Parliament in our country has the objective of strengthening democracy, promoting the law-making activities, creating young leaders, establishing ties with youth parliaments of different countries, and reaching the pressing issues of the youth in an operative way to the Parliament and Government.

Tigran Torosyan, the NA Vice-Chairman and Larisa Alaverdyan, the Ombudsperson addressed the young MPs with a greeting speech. Arshak Khachatryan, the Archimandrite gave the blessings of the Catholicos of all Armenians to the Youth Parliament.

The Youth MPs presented different parties, creative unions, student councils and public institutions.

Taking the example of the Parliament, the elderly deputy, 33 year-old Artur Manukyan presided the first sitting and it was decided that all the others will preside the forthcoming sittings in turn.

After adopting the agenda by voting, the elections of accounting commissions were held and then the Rules of Procedure of the Youth Parliament created on the basis of the NA Rules of Procedure was debated. The third issue of the agenda related to the bill “On the Higher and Post-Graduate Specialized Education”, which presented Ararat Malkhasyan, the NA deputy. At the end he answered the young deputies’ questions connected with the creation of the student councils, the protection of student’s rights, improvement of educational quality and higher educational criteria in the bill. It was decided to submit to the Committee all the proposals related to the bill in written form.

6 Standing Committees were formed and Chairmen and deputies were elected by the example of the National Assembly.
