On May 14, the delegation led by the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan met with the Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Slovakia Marián Kéry. The RA NA deputies Hasmik Hakobyan and Taguhi Ghazaryan are in the delegation.

The member of the Committee for Education, Science, Youth and Sport of the National Council of Slovakia Dušan Galis also attended the meeting.

At the meeting Hakob Arshakyan underscored that Slovakia is one of the important partners of Armenia in Europe, and Armenia is deeply concerned about enhancing the cooperation with Slovakia in all spheres of mutual interest in bilateral format, as well as within the framework of relations with the European Union.

The NA Vice President highly assessed the adoption of the Resolution recognizing and condemning the Armenian Genocide by the National Council of Slovakia in 2004, as well as marked Marián Kéry’s personal contribution in the adoption of the two resolutions on the conflict of Nagorno Karabakh in the Parliament of Slovakia in 2020 and in 2021.

Touching upon the security challenges, Hakob Arshakyan presented in detail the last developments in the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as in the delimitation process, clearly highlighting the principle of territorial integrity and the commitment to 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration.

Regarding the perspectives of sustainable economic development in the South Caucasus, the NA Vice President stressed the concern of the Republic of Armenia in unblocking the regional links and the opportunities being given by implementing the Crossroads of Peace project drafted by the RA Government, underlining that the key principles of sovereignty, national jurisdiction, reciprocity and equality are laid on the basis of the project.

Hakob Arshakyan also emphasized the role of Slovakia in the deployment of the EU civilian mission on the border of Armenia.

Marián Kéry welcomed the visit of the RA NA delegation to Slovakia and recorded with satisfaction the positive dynamics of the development of the inter-parliamentary relations between Armenia and Slovakia. He expressed support to the process of the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the strengthening of stability and trust in the region.

The Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Slovakia attached importance to the parliamentarians’ warm working atmosphere and close collaboration, as well as the issue of the visa liberalization of Armenia with the European Union and expressed willingness to support it.
