On February 7, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Koryun Nahapetyan met with Philipp Fluri, Deputy Director of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF). During the meeting the sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation.

It has been noted that the main directions of cooperation are: the reforms in the spheres of defense and security, the improvement of the legislation, the parliamentary oversight of the Committee and the effective use of the latter's tool set.

At the end of the meeting a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the RA National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security and the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces. The document will be the legal basis for cooperation between the parties until the end of the authorities of the National Assembly of the sixth convocation.

The goal of the Memorandum is to raise the efficiency of the democratic oversight towards the spheres of defense, national security, police and emergency situations in the RA. The action plans have been worked out, and on their basis a number of joint events will be organized, including professional analyses, training courses and international seminars for the Committee members and the Staff, experts' conclusions on the laws and draft laws will be given.

Highly assessing the cooperation with the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces, Koryun Nahapetyan underlined that, as a result of cooperation, a number of achievements had already been recorded, particularly in the legislative reforms of the spheres of defense and security and the efficiency of the implementation of the parliamentary oversight.
