On February 2, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received Norma Pensado Moreno, the newly appointed Ambassador of the United States of Mexico to Armenia (residence in Moscow).

Ara Babloyan congratulated the Ambassador on the occasion of her appointment and expressed hope that with her activities would promote the deepening of the Armenian-Mexican friendship.

In the RA NA President's word, the two peoples' relations are warm and friendly irrespective of the distance of the countries.

The Head of the parliament highlighted the steps aimed at deepening of the inter-parliamentary ties, underlining the work of the Friendship Groups functioning in the two parliaments.

Ara Babloyan welcomed the balanced approach of Mexico in the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

“The Artsakh problem should be solved exclusively through peaceful negotiations under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. Our only weapon is the democracy, the protection of human rights: we should not solve such issues with weapon,” the RA NA President noted.

He touched upon the Mexican parliamentarians’ visits to Armenia and Artsakh paid recently, highlighting the importance of the mutual contacts.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, the Ambassador highlighted the deepening of the friendly relations between Mexico and Armenia, evaluating the role of the inter-parliamentary ties in that.

“The parliamentary diplomacy is one of the most important components of the traditional diplomacy, and we highly assess the Mexican and Armenian parliamentarian’s mutual visits,” Norma Pensado Moreno noted.

The Ambassador presented to Ara Babloyan the situation regarding the elections of the upcoming parliamentary and local self-government bodies in Mexico, assuring that the Friendship Group with the National Assembly of Armenia will also be formed in the newly elected parliament of her country and will have effective activities. The Ambassador expressed readiness to support in all possible way the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

At the end of the meeting Ara Babloyan wished success to the Ambassador during the implementation of her mission and expressed readiness to support for further deepening and strengthening of the ties existing between the two countries.
