On October 26, in the foyer of the RA National Assembly Session Hall the exhibition of the painter Karlos Abovyan’s works opened.

The deputies of the RA National Assembly, the representatives of the RA NA Staff, artists and journalists attended the event.

In his opening remarks the Head of the RA NA RPA Faction Vahram Baghdasaryan noted: “Karlos Abovyan’s works prompt us that we deal with a patriot painter. The Armenian miniaturists, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Alexander Bazhbeuk Melikyan, Minas Avetisyan and the miracle of nature Lori gorge inspired him. Karlos Abovyan lived reserved and modestly, avoided homage, creating his unique world. He was refusing to show his works during his lifetime: he was thinking to organize exhibitions is typical to great artists. I have begun to be friends with the painter from the 80s, but, alas, our friendship was short. He was special in human relations, too.”

The Master’s inspiration source was the nature. According to his will, the painter’s heart was buried in Lori gorge, near Ardvin chapel: a place, which he especially liked.

Evaluating Karlos Abovyan’s works, the state and political figure Karen Demirchyan said: “I found a new Rembrandt.”

“Karlos Abovyan was a great master of portraits. The symbolism, colourful non-mould solutions and dynamics were typical to his canvases. In his numerous painted portraits of women and men, as well as in self-portraits the painter’s world outlook is reflected. By the depth of the material, tender complexity of backgrounds, dark and bright colours he was decorating his models. He was exalting all women, irrespective of their age, making them a woman’s perfect type,” Karlos Abovyan’s daughter Anush Abovyan said.

“Karlos Abovyan’s painting is a guidebook for those, who want together with him to penetrate the other side of the mirror and perceive the depth of the creatures and things. Karlos Abovyan brought new breadth, juicy palette and solemnity. His drawings, landscapes, still-lives and especially portraits are special,” People’s Master, actress Marine Mkhitaryan said.

In 2017 the painter Karlos Abovyan would become 80 years old.
