Delegation Led by RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan Arrives in Artsakh Republic

On June 15, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ara Babloyan arrived in Artsakh on a two-day visit.

The NA Speaker of the Artsakh Republic (AR) Ashot Ghulyan, the Deputy Speaker Vahram Balayan, the Head of the parliamentary majority Artur Tovmasyan and other responsible officials met the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament and the delegation led by him at the monument We And Our Mountains.

After assuming the RA NA Speaker’s post this is Ara Babloyan’s first visit to Artsakh Republic (AR).

During the first part of the visit programme the delegation accompanied by the AR NA Deputy Speaker Vahram Balayan visited Stepanakert Memorial Complex and paid tribute to the memory of the martyrs of Artsakh freedom fighting and the victims of the Great Patriotic War.

Afterwards, in the National Assembly the short tête-à-tête talk between the Speakers of the two republics was held, which was followed by the meeting in expanded format with the participation of the deputies of the RA NA and AR NA and the officials of the staff.

Welcoming the RA NA Speaker and the members of the delegation, Ashot Ghulyan highly assessed the level of the cooperation existing between the two parliaments during these years.

“Since the very first years of independence parliamentary firm and practical relations have been formed between the two republics, which later have been carried to a level of institutional relations and enshrined by the agreement of cooperation between the two fraternal parliaments,” Ashot Ghulyan noted.

“The greatest post for me is to be called Artsakh citizen,” the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan began his speech in this way. In his welcoming word addressed to the parliamentarians of Artsakh, the RA NA Speaker noticed that before he repeatedly visited Artsakh both as a deputy of the Armenian Parliament and as a doctor.

He also highly assessed the level of Armenia-Artsakh inter-parliamentary relations and expressed readiness to continue the parliamentary efforts addressed to the international recognition of Artsakh Republic.

“Artsakh is the inseparable part of the Armenian world, with which we are connected with blood, spirit and heart, culture and history. I am sure that nobody can stop the aspiration of Artsakh people,” Ara Babloyan noted.

On the same day the delegation led by the RA NA Speaker met with the President of Artsakh Republic Bako Sahakyan.

The President of Artsakh congratulated Ara Babloyan for being elected RA NA Speaker and the members of the delegation for being elected deputy of the National Assembly and assuming responsible posts, wishing them effective work.

A number of issues concerning the cooperation of the parliaments of the Armenian two states were discussed at the meeting.

Both sides expressed conviction that the National Assembly of the 6th convocation of the Republic of Armenia will continue to expand and deepen the close cooperation formed with the National Assembly of the Artsakh Republic.

On June 16, the RA parliamentary delegation will take part in the opening ceremony of the Inter-Party Forum.

The RA NA Speaker’s visit will continue until June 17.
