On June 7, the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan received the Head of the EU Delegation to the RA, Ambassador Pjotr Switalski.
Ara Babloyan thanked the Ambassador for the role in the deepening of the Armenia-EU cooperation and noted that it will be possible to give a new impetus to bilateral relations with joint efforts.
The RA NA Speaker noted: “As a newly elected Speaker of the National Assembly I would like to stress that the European Union continues to remain one of the important counterparts of Armenia. The cooperation with the EU is based, first of all, on the system of common values, as we are resolute to continuously deepen and expand our relations with the EU.”
Ara Babloyan expressed hope that the new legal document regulating the EU-Armenia relations, the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, will be signed soon and the existing relations will enter a new legal plane.
The RA NA Speaker highlighted the role of the parliaments in the development of the Armenia-EU relations, as well as the significance of the joint programmes being implemented with the National Assembly.
The Head of the EU Delegation to the RA, Ambassador Pjotr Switalski congratulated Ara Babloyan on assuming the post of the RA National Assembly Speaker and wished him fruitful work.
Pjotr Switalski emphasized the role of the parliament in strengthening of the EU-Armenia relationship and expressed hope that the Standing Committees of the National Assembly will continue cooperating with the EU Delegation.
The Ambassador has noted that through many years being in touch with the Armenian society, he has noticed that the Armenians are more Europeans than representatives of many EU member countries.
The interlocutors also touched upon the reforms being made in the protection of human rights, development of democracy and the anti-corruption spheres.
At the end of the meeting, Pjotr Switalski expressed readiness to support the programmes and initiatives being implemented with the RA National Assembly.
