NA President Receives Foreign Affairs Committee Delegation of European Parliament

On May 25, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received the delegation led by the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament David McAllister.

The Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), who represented Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Latvia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Finland and Italy, visited Armenia within the framework of regional visit to Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The members of the factions represented in the parliament Armen Ashotyan, Samvel Farmanyan, Karen Bekaryan (RPA Faction), Naira Zohrabyan, Vahe Enfiajyan (Tsarukyan Faction), Armen Rustamyan, Armenuhi Kyureghyan (ARF Faction), Nikol Pashinyan and Mane Tandilyan (Way Out Faction).

The RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan welcomed the Delegation of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament in the National Assembly and introduced the members of the NA factions to them.

In his word the NA President has noted that the European Union continues remaining one of the most important partners of Armenia, the cooperation with the EU is, first of all, based on the system of common values.

Ara Babloyan highlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the development of Armenia-EU relations.

Talking about the EU-Armenia new Framework Agreement to be signed in future, the NA Speaker has stated that Armenia, moving in the direction of the democracy development, expects the support of the European Union in different spheres.

In the context of the democracy development and the protection of fundamental human rights Ara Babloyan touched upon the black list made up by Azerbaijan, where the foreigners, having visited Artsakh and expressed their wish to get acquainted with the situation on the spot, unfairly appeared there.

Regarding the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem and the issue of the young people, who get killed in the incidents on the border, the NA President reaffirmed the position of Armenia on the solution of the NK issue through peaceful means and noted: “As a doctor, during the Soviet years, I have cured and operated on hundreds of Azerbaijani children, and it is painful that during these days we lose our young people: the problem should be solved through peaceful means.”

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament Chair David McAllister congratulated Ara Babloyan for being elected President of the National Assembly and presented the members of the delegation led by him. He expressed his wish to listen to the opinions of both the political majority and the opposition on the processes going on in the country.

During the exchange of thoughts the interlocutors touched upon the EU-Armenia new Framework Agreement to be signed in future, the ways of the solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem and the visits of the members of the European Parliament to Artsakh.

During the talk the representatives of all factions of the National Assembly expressed their viewpoints and concerns.
