MPs of Federal and Brussels Region Parliaments of Belgium Hosted in Parliament of Artsakh Republic

At the initiative of Europe Hay Dat/Armenian Cause Committee the MPs of Federal and Brussels Region Parliament of the Kingdom of Belgium André du Bus de Warnaffe, Emanuel De Bock and Pierre Kompany arrived in Stepanakert.

On March 20, the deputies accompanied by the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh, the Head of Artsakh Republic-European Parliament Parliamentary Group Vahram Balayan visited Stepanakert Memorial Complex and laid flowers in memory of the Armenian sons, who had been martyred in Artsakh liberation struggle.

Afterwards the Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh Republic Ashot Ghulyan received the parliamentarians of Belgium.

Welcoming his Belgian counterparts, the Speaker of the National Assembly has expressed hope that the frequent visits with the Belgian MPs create serious bases of institutionalization of relations.

“The frequency of mutual visits shows the interest towards Artsakh and its liberation struggle in Belgium,” Ashot Ghulyan noted.

Thanking for the reception, the Member of Wallonia-Brussels Federal Parliament André du Bus de Warnaffe has congratulated the NA Speaker relating to the process of Constitutional reforms of Artsakh Republic and the results of referendum and underlined that the issue of Artsakh is more emphasized for them, and they attentively observe the ongoing developments.

The Member of Brussels Region Parliament Pierre Kompany, who was in Artsakh for the first time, presented to the Speaker of the Parliament his observation on Artsakh:

“Here I see a country, which has a goal not to get separated at any price, but to correct the historical mistake. This is a big lesson for me.”

Afterwards, at the guests’ request Ashot Ghulyan presented the main peculiarities of the new Constitution, as well as answered the issues concerning the status of Artsakh and the bilateral relations with Armenia.

The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh Republic Vahram Balayan, the Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Arzik Mkhitaryan, and the Chairman of Europe Hay Dat/Armenian Cause Committee Kasbar Garabedian took part in the meeting.

After the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament the meeting of the Belgian parliamentarians with the members of Artsakh Republic-European Parliament Friendship Group was held in the NA Small Hall.

During the meeting the sides talked about the perspectives of bilateral cooperation, as well as outlined certain directions of cooperation.
