On November 22, at the invitation of the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of Mexico Gabriela Cuevas Barron, the Chair of RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan visited Mexico. During the visit the President of the Senate Pablo Escudero Morales received Artak Zakaryan.
Welcoming the guest, the President of the Senate highlighted the role of the inter-parliamentary diplomacy in the development and deepening of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation reached between the two Committees within the framework of the visit of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate of Mexico paid at the invitation of the Chair of RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations. In this context the President of the Senate also underlined the necessity of the realization of the reached agreements, affirming the interest of the Upper Chamber of the Mexican Parliament in the comprehensive development of the relations with Armenia.
Conveying the warm greetings of the RA National Assembly President, Artak Zakaryan invited the President of the Senate to visit Armenia in future, which was gladly accepted by the President of the Senate.
During the talk the situation in the South Caucasus region, the procedure of the reforms underway in Armenia, the main directions of the foreign policy were presented, and the possibilities of boosting the economic ties in Armenia-Mexico relations and the implementation of the joint projects in a number of spheres were highlighted. The peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh issue and the inadmissibility of one-sided position were touched upon.
During the visit Artak Zakaryan also met with the Secretary (Minister) of Economy of Mexico Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal. In the course of the meeting the peculiarities of the RA foreign economic policy, the wide opportunities of the sphere, the steps being taken by the RA authorities. Artak Zakaryan invited the Secretary of Economy to visit Armenia with the representatives of the business circles, which was gladly accepted by the Mexican side. As a result of debates, by the Minister's assignment Artak Zakaryan will meet with the Heads of the biggest companies of Mexico. The Minister of Economy promised to be consistent and promote the formation and development of practical ties with Armenia in future.
On the same day Artak Zakaryan had also a meeting with the President of the Chamber of Deputies Edmundo Javier Bolaños Aguilar and Mexico-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group formed for the first time in October of this year. The Heads of all Parliamentary Factions, representatives of business circles, special invitees and mass media representatives also attended the meeting.
During the joint discussions both sides stated the importance of the Friendship Groups’ activities in the development of the inter-parliamentary ties, and an agreement was reached to carry out the visit of the President of the Chamber of Deputies and the Friendship Group Members to Armenia in future. Artak Zakaryan presented Armenia’s inner and foreign political developments, underlining the importance of the establishment of the official Yerevan’s comprehensive mutually beneficial cooperation.
At the end of the meeting the President of the Chamber of Deputies Edmundo Javier Bolaños Aguilar invited Artak Zakaryan to take part in the plenary sitting of the Lower Chamber of the parliament, where the Mexican MPs warmly welcomed the NA representative of Armenia. At the Chamber of Deputies Artak Zakaryan also had a meeting with his counterpart, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee Victor Manuel Giorgana Jimenez.
The interlocutors presented the developments taking place in the two regions, sharing the opinions in the necessity of diversification of the inner-state relations. Artak Zakaryan presented in detail the essence of the Nagorno Karabakh issue, the deconstructive position of the Azerbaijani side, which endangers the stability of the whole region and the efficiency of the efforts directed to the establishment of the lasting peace. An agreement was reached to create a mechanism of cooperation and consultation over the issues of mutual interest between the Committees in future.
During the visit the RA Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mexico Ara Ayvazyan was accompanying the Chair of RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations.
