The NA Speaker’s address reads:

“Dear representatives of mass media, I congratulate you on Armenian Press Day.

Mass media is a unique diary of the events concerning the people and the states’ life, also often predetermining and dictating those events, by that having a weighty, sometimes even fatal role in the life of a citizen and a state. Through the journalists with different viewpoints and your presented mass media the words containing different impetuses in them of the society are transferred, are formulated, which comparing with your words, you publicly voice problems, concerns and also propose solutions. The first Armenian periodical Azdarar issued 222 years ago had its voice and word, which maybe are consonant with today’s mass media way of thinking, nevertheless, have also certain impetuses, which have absolutely not lost its modernity.

The objectivity and sincerity, the reliability of the free speech of the mass media greatly depend on the possibility of free thinking, expressing and working. Today’s unimposing activeness and the full participation to the public-political and state life of the Armenian mass media at best characterize the public demand that is towards the media field and the favourable atmosphere that exists for their effective and unconstrained activities.

Once again congratulating you on Armenian Press Day I wish you health, creative inspiration, welfare and optimism.”
