Galust Sahakyan Receives Vice President of German Bundestag

On October 4, the President of the RA National Assembly Galust Sahakyan received the Delegation led by the Vice President of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany Johannes Singhammer.

Welcoming the guests in the parliament, Galust Sahakyan congratulated them on the occasion of the national holiday, the Unification of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The President of the National Assembly has underlined that Armenia highlights the launch of bilateral endeavors for further activation of inter-parliamentary cooperation and contacts.

Welcoming the Bundestag Members’ visits to Artsakh, the Head of the parliament expressed conviction that they will have a positive impact on the solution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict through peaceful means, within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. In this context, he emphasized Germany’s efforts directed to the strengthening of peace and stability in the region, the formation of atmosphere of mutual trust, as well as the boosting of the regional cooperation.

Galust Sahakyan highly assessed the financial and technical support being provided to Armenia by the German Government for the reforms in the democratic and economic spheres going on in Armenia.

The NA President expressed his gratitude to the Bundestag for the adoption of the bill condemning the Armenian Genocide on June 2, 2016.

Thanking the NA President for the warm reception, the Vice President of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany Johannes Singhammer also spotlighted the strengthening of the parliamentary ties with Armenia and the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Johannes Singhammer considered significant their visit to Armenia after the adoption of the bill condemning the Armenian Genocide in the German Bundestag. In this context, he highlighted the fact of giving a decent name and assessment to the historical realities of the past. Touching upon the regional problems, the German MP has noted that with the policy based on universal values and joint forces it is possible to take measures for preserving peace in the region.

The interlocutors attached importance to the effective work of the Budgetary Office and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH (German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation) in the Armenian Parliament.

At the meeting both parties referred to a number of programmes to be jointly implemented, and issues of bilateral interest.
