RA NA Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan Takes Part in First Women’s Forum of Countries along the Silk Road Launched in China

On September 19-23, within the framework of China-Eurasia International Exhibition in the city of Urumqi of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China a number of forums are being held, including the First Women’s Forum of Countries along the Silk Road , which began on September 19.

At the invitation of the All-China Women’s Federation, the Delegation led by the RA NA Deputy Speaker, the Chairwoman of the RPA Women’s Council Hermine Naghdalyan, and comprised of the Chair of the Prosperous Armenia Party, the Head of the NA PAP Faction Naira Zohrabyan, the Chair of the Social-Democrat Hunchakian Party, the NA deputy Lyudmila Sargsyan, the RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Jemma Baghdasaryan, the Chair of the Women’s Board of Gegharkunik Marz Eleonora Malkhasyan and the Editor of Aravot News website Anna Israyelyan, is participating in the Forum.

About 150 participants are taking part in the Forum, about 60 out of them - from 22 countries of Europe, Asia and Africa . The Forum converges around it high ranking officials of numerous countries, human rights defenders, diplomats, representatives of public and state bodies.

At the beginning of the Forum, the RA NA Deputy Speaker delivered a programme speech, which greatly interested the attendees and became a matter of broad discussion. In her speech Mrs Naghdalyan particularly highlighted peace and stability in the world, the prevalence of democratic values and human rights and the strengthening of regional cooperation. According to her assessment, the cooperation is expanding worldwide, and the integration processes are intensifying. The great Silk Road is one of the significant achievements of the world civilization history, and it has not only been a historical phenomenon, but also the most important lesson for the future.

Touching upon the situation in Armenia, Mrs Naghdalyan has noted that today in our country a number of sub-structural programmes are being carried out, as a result of which the transit traffic should increase through the territory of Armenia. Armenia has not only advantages of a transit country, but also has a big potential of bilateral economic cooperation. Today, in the CIS it has a leading role at the level of economic freedom and use of market laws. In her speech Mrs Naghdalyan has referred to Armenia ’s membership to the EEC and has underlined that it opens new opportunities for our country. Concluding her speech, Mrs Naghdalyan expressed hope that the 21st century will be an era of social partnership, real social agreement, the bases of which are laid in such meetings.

Within the First Women’s Forum of Countries along the Silk Road thematic discussions and roundtables were also organized:   Internet Plus Women's Development, Women's Leadership and Economic Benefits, and Women's Employment and Entrepreneurship , where the members of our Delegation actively took part.

During the Forum the RA NA Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan had a meeting with the Vice Governor of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Mr Erken Tuniyaz and discussed issues regarding the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries, the importance of the Silk Road economic cooperation and the perspectives. Mrs Naghdalyan thanked the Women’s Forum for the warm reception shown to the Armenian Delegation and emphasized the works of the Forum.

The RA NA Deputy Speaker also met with the President of the women’s organization of Xinjiang State , as well as had private talks with the heads of the delegations participating in the Forum.
