Meeting in Parliament
1 / 3

On August 4, the Head of the RA NA Armenia-USA Friendship Group Samvel Nikoyan, members of the Group Alexander Arzoumanian, Khachatur Kokobelyan and Vardan Oskanian met with the U.S. Senate experts Jonathan Epstein, Curtis Owens, James Finch and Jameson Lahm. The U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the RA Richard Mills also attended the meeting.

The interlocutors discussed issues regarding the development of the Armenian-American relations and the existing cooperation.

According to the experts, the study made by them has shown that the programs and the works implemented as a result of the aid to Armenia have been very effective, and the level of control at border check points is almost at the same level, as it is in the USA.

Condemning the activities of the terrorists of the Islamic State in the world, the participants of the meeting have expressed concern that Armenia is geographically rather close to the epicenter. In this context the experts expressed wish that the RA borders will be protected as much as possible for providing the security of population.

The Head of the RA NA Armenia-USA Friendship Group Samvel Nikoyan highlighted both the experts’ visit to Armenia and the study done. He has noted that no country is guaranteed from terrorism. Mr Nikoyan appreciated the support being shown to Armenia by the U.S. in fighting the terrorism and emphasized the mutual control.

During the meeting the Armenian parliamentarians also talked about the Nagorno Karabakh: it has been noted that the security of the whole region depends on the peaceful settlement of the issue.
