On June 6, the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan received the Head of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung/Foundation (KAS) Regional Office Thomas Schrapel and Tim B.Peters, Desk Officer of the Central, Eastern and Northern Europe. The member of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Member of Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Shirak Torosyan also attended the meeting.

Welcoming the guests Artak Zakaryan highly assessed the adoption of the Resolution on Armenian Genocide Recognition by the Bundestag. The Committee Chairman expressed conviction that the MPs of the Christian-Democratic Party of Germany have also a big role in the adoption of the Resolution by the German Parliament.

Tim B. Peters highlighted the fact that the Draft Resolution on Armenian Genocide Recognition in the Bundestag of Germany was adopted by voting an overwhelming majority. He has also underlined that by that decision the issue of Germany’s participation and responsibility is reflected in the crime committed by the Ottoman Empire.

Speaking about the activities of the Foundation Artak Zakaryan has noted that the Konrad Adenauer carries out activities in Armenia, which is directed to the strengthening of democracy in the context of Christian values, underlining especially the works being done among the youth.

Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh problem Artak Zakaryan has noted that Armenia continues to remain adherent to the OSCE Minsk Group efforts within the framework of the peaceful settlement, whereas Azerbaijan with its bellicose statements does not promote the preservation of peace in the region. During the year 2016 Germany chairs the OSCE, and in this context Artak Zakaryan has expressed hope that this year it will be possible to record positive move in the peaceful settlement of the problem.

The Head of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung/Foundation (KAS) Regional Office Thomas Schrapel has emphasized the fact that Armenia’s membership to the EEC has not impeded the development of bilateral cooperation. The representative of the Foundation expressed his satisfaction to the Committee Chairman for supporting the Foundation and cooperation with it.

The Committee Chairman also referred to Armenia’s inner-political situation, particularly talked about the new Constitution and the new role of the parliament in case of the new Electoral Code, as well as the anti-corruption programmes and the fight against corruption.

The member of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Shirak Torosyan also highlighted the adoption of the Resolution on Armenian Genocide Recognition by the Bundestag. The MP also talked about Armenia-Turkey relations.

The interlocutors discussed issues relating to the further cooperation.
