On April 24, the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan received the Member of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Denmark Lars Aslan Rasmussen.

Artak Zakaryan thanked Lars Aslan Rasmussen for taking part in the events of the 101^st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and paying tribute to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.

The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations has noted that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide shall not be observed as a step against Turkey or for the benefit of Armenia, but an important step directed to prevent the possible genocides.

Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh problem Artak Zakaryan presented the details of the aggression committed towards Artsakh by Azerbaijan at the beginning of April and the real situation, particularly, the offensive planned by the adversary beforehand and the violations of the norms of the international humanitarian law during that period. Artak Zakaryan underlined that the right of self-determination of Nagorno Karabakh could not be reprieved by the use of the military force. In the Committee Chairman’s word, Azerbaijan committed military aggression, violating all agreements and negotiating principles.

In the course of the meeting issues relating to the further development of the parliamentary relations of the two countries were also discussed.

On the same day Artak Zakaryan received the member of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Italy, the Deputy Chairman of NATO PA Paolo Alli.

During the meeting Artak Zakaryan touched upon the situation on the Karabakh-Azerbaijani Line of Contact. The Committee Chairman has noted that the violation of the ceasefire regime by Azerbaijan and any similar case and attempt should be condemned by the international community, otherwise, the aggressor gets more unleashed and one of the evidence of the crimes committed towards the NKR civilians by the Azerbaijani armed forces, and such behaviour is inadmissible for Armenia.

The Committee Chairman has stated that the best solution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and the similar ones is the international recognition of the self-determination law.

Talking about Nagorno Karabakh problem Paolo Alli has noted that he shares Mr Zakaryan’s viewpoints, and in terms of the maintenance of the stability in the region Armenia is considered an important country, thus it is very important that the problem will get political solution.

At the meeting issues concerning Armenia-NATO cooperation are also discussed.

Artak Zakaryan highlighted the development of Armenia-NATO relations and noted that it is in the centre of attention of all political forces presented in parliament.

Talking about the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide Paolo Alli thanked Artak Zakaryan for organizing it at high level: he expressed hope that what happened will never be repeated.

The parliamentarians also discussed issues regarding the Armenian-Italian inter-parliamentary relations.
