On April 23, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov met with the MP of the Hellenic Parliament of the Republic of Greece, the Deputy Chairman of Greece-Armenia Friendship Group Antonis Balomenakis within the framework of the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic Ioannis Taghis also attended the meeting.
Welcoming the guests Eduard Sharmazanov highly assessed the Armenian and Greek peoples’ centuries-old history friendship and highlighted the participation of the Greek Delegation in the events of the Armenian Genocide anniversary and the Global Forum. He expressed his gratitude to the Greek authorities for their assistance in the international condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, noting that Greece not only condemned, but also adopted a law criminalizing the denial of the Genocide.
The NA Deputy Speaker touched upon the large scale aggression unleashed by the Azerbiajani armed forces at the beginning of April, talked about the handwriting of the ISIL terrorist organization in Azerbaijan’s actions. In this context Mr Sharmazanov highlighted the voicing of targeted assessment by the EU countries.
In terms of strengthening of the inter-parliamentary- cooperation the interlocutors considered necessary especially the joint work at the international parliamentary structures and the more deepening of cooperation.
In the course of the meeting the sides also touched upon the Greek community’s activities in Armenia, the regional problems and Turkey’s denial policy.
At the end of the meeting the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov assured that Armenia had been, is and will be the Greek people’s friend.
