On September 23 the Head of the NA Armenia-Syria Friendship Group Tatshat Vardapetyan and Friendship Group member Tevan Poghosyan have met Syrian Arab Republic ’s Charge d’Affaires in Armenia Issam Nayali, Consul Amira Karawani and cultural attaché Rana Khyati.

Welcoming the guests, Tatshat Vardapetyan has highly appreciated the Armenian-Syrian relations, touched upon the objectives of the friendship group’s visit to the Syrian Arab Republic in June of this year.

Tatshat Vardapetyan has noted that the goal of the members of the Friendship Group was to get acquainted on the spot to the issues of the Armenian community, the crisis situation going on in Syria .

In this context the Head of the Friendship Group has highlighted the meetings with the Syrian President Bashar al-Asad, the President of the Parliament, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the Spiritual Leader.    

Tatshat Vardapetyan has considered necessary to further intensify the interparliamentary ties and cooperation.

The Armenian-Syrian Friendship Group member Tevan Poghosyan also welcomed the guests’ visit to the Armenia ’s Parliament. He has informed that he will continue representing the continuous situation in Syria to the international structures.

The Syrian Arab Republic ’s Charge d’Affaires in Armenia Issam Nayali has thanked for the meeting. In his word, Armenia and Syria are old friends, and the visit of the President of the Syrian Parliament to Armenia for taking part in the events dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide testifies to that.  Issam Nayali spoke with warmth and appreciation about the Armenian community in Syria , and has spotlighted their role in Syria ’s development. He has expressed hope that the deported Armenians will return to Syria .

During the meeting the interlocutors have touched upon a number of regional issues.
