Meeting at the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations
1 / 3

On September 22 the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan, the members of the Committee Volodya Badalyan and Tevan Poghosyan met with the Delegation led by the Chairperson of the Committee for Foreign Policy of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania László Borbély.

Welcoming the guests, Artak Zakaryan talked about the good partnership at different levels between the two parliaments, highlighted the establishment of stable and long-lasting cooperation between the two Committees.

Thanking for the invitation and warm reception, László Borbély also highlighted the development and deepening of cooperation between the two Committees. Talking about the Armenian Genocide, the Head of the delegation has noted that what happened is a trouble which should serve as an example for other nations in order never to be repeated. Let us note that before the meeting the delegation visited Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex. The Romanian parliamentarians expressed concern about the migration existing in the European region, talked about the RA-EU relations, emphasized the Armenian citizens’ right to free movement in the borders of the European Union zone and expressed readiness to support in that issue.

Talking about the problems of the country’s security, Artak Zakaryan has noted that today Armenia, having a non-solved conflict in the region in that issue expects the support of the international community. The Committee Chairman has expressed hope that in the Karabakh issue there will not be approaches by the counterparts that will impede and escalate the situation. “The countries which directly support Azerbaijan or rely only on the principle of territorial integrity simply impede the peaceful settlement of the problem. We are for the peace, and we do our best that the process of the OSCE Minsk Group was a success,” said Artak Zakaryan. According to the Committee Chairman, the Minsk Group is an entire system of balanced approaches which can and should give political solution to the problem.

It has been noted that the RA borders continue to be bombed and the civilian people are in danger which is the result of Azerbaijan’s non-constructive and aggressive policy. However, Armenia realizing quite well that its responsibility of peace in the region does its utmost so that the problem has peaceful settlement. In this context Artak Zakaryan has expressed hope that the MPs of Romania and the deputies working in different parliamentary formats deeply comprehending the situation could show appropriate support to that process.

At the meeting the sides also touched upon the development of the Armenian-Romanian economic ties, the increase of the goods turnover and the cultural cooperation.

According to Artak Zakaryan, Armenia as an EEU member country, has an opportunity to freely work in that market and the business investments in Armenia can also be attractive for the Romanian entrepreneurs.

At the end of the meeting the parties reached an agreement to sign a joint Memorandum on Cooperation between the two Committees in future. In that connection Artak Zakaryan has noted that the cooperation over the concrete problems more deepens, and makes reliable the bilateral relations. According to the Committee Chairman, the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations has such experience with the parliaments of different countries.

In the course of the meeting the members of the Committee touched upon the bilateral relations, emphasized the deepening of the current parliamentary cooperation and the creation of firm ties in a number of spheres.
