On June 12 the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs moderated by Vardan Ayvazyan organized parliamentary hearings “On the Grounds for the Electricity Tariffs Revision.” The NA deputies, members of the government, representatives of the NGOs and the specialists of the sphere attended the hearings.

The Committee Chairman Vardan Ayvazyan has informed that the General Director of the CJSC “Electric Networks of Armenia” Yevgeny Bibin, who had been invited to the parliamentary hearings, informed in advance that he would not take part in the hearings.

The key speaker, the Chairman of the RA Public Services Regulating Commission Robert Nazaryan, presented the grounds for electricity tariffs revision submitted by the Hydro Electric Networks.

The RA Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan in his speech has noted that the debates over the electricity tariffs hike shows that there no indifferent people towards this issue, however it becomes clear that they don't have facts and professional knowledge.

In his speech Vardan Ayvazyan has stated that this problem should be solved.

The deputies Artsvik Minasyan, Tevan Poghosyan, Nikol Pashinyan, Heghine Bisharyan, Naira Zohrabyan, Levon Zurabyan, and the representatives of the NGOs addressed numerous questions to the key speaker Robert Nazaryan, which related to the necessity and risks of the electricity tariffs hike, the financial policy pursued by the Hydro-Electric Networks, management, shortcomings and gaps, as well as the positions and functions of the Public Services Regulating Commission.

Summing up the hearings, the Committee Chairman Vardan Ayvazyan proposed the deputies and the representatives of the NGOs to submit their proposals on the rise of the electricity tariffs in written form. He assured them that they would certainly be addressed to the relevant institutions of the executive body for consideration.
