Address is Adopted at the Sitting of the Youth Parliament
1 / 4

On April 10 the next plenary sitting of the Youth Parliament (YP) adjunct to the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport was held.

The address of the Youth Parliament dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, which was debated and unanimously adopted by the YP, was included in the agenda.

After the members of the YP had adopted the address, they observed one minute of silence in the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims, thereafter laid flowers at the memorial eternalizing the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.

The address of the Youth Parliament adjunct to the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia

Using as bases the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the Armenian Genocide Centennial, by this address we call on the youth of the entire world:

  1. To condemn the genocidal actions, expatriation, massacres aimed at the extermination of the Armenians and the Armenian legacy, and ethnic cleansing as a precedent of crimes against humanity and of genocide, planned and continuously perpetrated in 1894-1923 by the Ottoman Empire and Turkey’s different regimes.
  1. To condemn the denial or the attempt of denial of genocide as endeavors directed to the evasion of responsibility, concealment or acquitment of perpetrated crimes and its consequences, and as a continuation and encouragement for perpetration of new genocides.
  1. To condemn the illegal blockade of the Republic of Armenia, the anti-Armenian posture at the international platforms and advancement of preconditions by Turkey in the settlement of inter-state relations, assessing them as a consequence of leaving the Armenian Genocide unpunished by now.
  1. To invite Turkey to come to terms with its past, and with the consciousness of civilization recognize and denounce the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire, which can cause a breakthrough into the process of historical reconciliation between the Armenian and Turkish people.
  1. To notice that the Armenian Genocide is not the tragedy of the Armenian people, but a global crime against civilization and mankind, which is a reminder to us about not learning the lessons of history, dangers of denying the genocide, as well as long-term negative consequences of leaving the crimes unpunished and non-recognized.
  1. To support the international struggle for the prevention of genocides, restoration of human rights of the people subjected to genocide and establishment of historical justice. To unite the potential and efforts of the youth for restoring the historical justice.
  2. To admit that the generations of the nations having been perpetrated the genocide have the right to be purified from the historical sin and to have the opportunity to live in the atmosphere of peaceful co-existence and tolerance. The path is the same: recognition and condemnation.

Let us remember that the change of centuries brings to the change of a generation, but the youth’s mission does not change from its change. Spiral of history spins on, leaving in it the deeds and achievements, names and faces, cases and events of each generation, the present course of which it is possible to anticipate.

The Armenian Genocide Centennial is a wake-up call.

We are not the first generation to speak and condemn genocide, but we can become the last to achieve justice.
