On April 1 the NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs moderated by Hakob Hakobyan in the first reading debated the bill “On Amending the RA Law on Refugees and Asylum.”

The RA First Minister of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations Vache Terteryan has noted that the provisions of the law propose to comply with the international treaties relating to refugees, certain rules of law adopted by the EU, as well as the EU practice, etc. 

Christoph Bierwirth, UNHCR  Representative in Armenia attended the sitting of the Committee, who had a series of objections on the draft law. The Committee will debate the High Commissioner’s recommendations in the near future: in case of being admissible they will be included in the draft law.

As a result of debates, the Committee endorsed the bill for including the bill in the draft laws of the agendas of the session and the upcoming four-day sittings.

The debate of the legislative initiative authored by the NA deputy Edmon Marukyan “On Amending the RA Law on State Pensions” was postponed up to one year.
