The RA NA Deputy Speaker, Head of the Armenia-Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia Parliamentary Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov’s official visit to the Republic of Lithuania has begun.

On March 16 the RA Deputy Speaker met with Gediminas Kirkilas, Deputy Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas, and Rasa Juknevičienė, M ember of the Seimas.

Eduard Sharmazanov has expressed hope that the meeting will become an additional impetus for the Armenian-Lithuanian relations, mainly in the interparliamentary cooperation development. In this context he has spotlighted the role and the meaning of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups in the parliaments of both countries.

The NA Deputy Speaker has expressed gratitude for Lithuania was the first to recognize the Independence of the Republic of Armenia and is the only country among the Baltic States to recognize the Armenian Genocide. He has expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian MPs for their support to the holding of the exhibition dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide in the Genocide Museum of Vilnius. Eduard Sharmazanov expressed hope that Lithuania will attend the commemoration ceremonies dedicated to the Armenian Genocide at high level.

The parties have touched upon the Armenia-EU relations. The Deputy Speaker has noted that Armenia is willing to continue political dialogue with the European partners. He has underscored that there is no alternative to the democratic values in Armenia.

At the end of the meeting the NA Deputy Speaker has awarded Gediminas Kirkilas and Rasa Juknevičienė NA Medals of Honour for their significant contribution to the intensification and development of the Armenian-Lithuanian ties.
