On November 6 in Novo-Ogaryovo the Chairman of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin among the members of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council also received the Head of the RA National Assembly Delegation to CSTO PA, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, who delivered a speech:

“Distinguished President of the Russian Federation,

Dear colleagues,

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is a key instrument for the stability and provision of security in the zone of responsibility, which in case of occurring of security threat is called on ensuring collective defense, at the same time giving priority to political and diplomatic means in reaching goals.

The main problem of the Parliamentary Assembly is to promote the provision of the coordination of the efforts of the CSTO member states in the formation and development of the collective security system, which is possible in case of improving the activities of the Assembly, especially with respect to the parliamentarians’ participation in other multilateral organizations.

Such necessity is conditioned by the fact that the position of a number of the CSTO colleagues does not coincide with the CSTO spirit, as well as other documents passed within the framework of the organization, related to the issues of key importance for the allies at different international platforms.

I suppose that the cases when the parliamentarians of some member states sometimes have not defended the position of their CSTO allies will remain in the past.

The delay of the adoption of decisions on security stems from the interests of those who have instigated tension, becoming the subject of our attention and concern.

Dear colleagues,

All this reaffirms that the role of the CSTO PA is not only important, but also is at the same plane of practical manifestations.

With regards to this it is necessary to focus our attention to such importasnt issues, as the manifestation of united position in the issues based on the interests of the CSTO and the member states of the Organization, stemming from the priorities of the ally obligations in the cooperation at multilateral platforms, as well as the adoption of the exact decisions and targeting statements, which come out in the interests of provision of security on the collective basis of the CSTO member states.”
