Press Conference in Parliament
1 / 2

At June 20 press conference the Head of the RA National Assembly delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Koryun Nahapetyan, the delegation member Tevan Poghsoyan and the Head of the Strategic Regional Studies Centre (RSC) Richard Giragosian detailed the participation in the works of the 86th ‘Rose-Roth’ workshop of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly on “South Caucasus: Challenges and Opportunities” held in Baku a few days ago.

According to Koryun Nahapetyan, Richard Giragosian was invited as a reporter on “The Process of the Nagorno Karabakh Conflict Settlement.” Noting the motives for the participation in the seminar, Koryun Nahapetyan noticed that the participation of the Armenian delegation in the seminar was extremely important, as, if the decision on the participation wasn’t made, a vacuum would have been created in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and taking the advantage the Azerbaijanis, in the absence of any confrontation, would have depicted a wrong picture on the regional problems.

The workshop passed in a very tense atmosphere: the Azerbaijani delegates was continuously carrying on anti-Armenian campaign, spreading disinformation and hatred towards the Armenians, to which the Armenian delegation opposed, presenting the reality both on the NK conflict settlement and on other issues under debate. The other delegates of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly attending the seminar have been in a status of observers: the dispute was going on between the Armenian and Azerbaijani delegates. At the workshop, as the Head of the Armenian delegation Koryun Nahapetyan informed, the following themes were discussed: Priorities of Foreign Policy and Security of Azerbaijan and Euro-Atlantic integration, Armenian-Azerbaijani Conflict, Process of Settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict , Reforms in Azerbaijan's State Governance and Security Systems, Crimean Crisis, Euro-Atlantic Path of Georgia, Energy Security in the South Caucasus, Iran and Regional Security, and Afghanistan after 2014. The delegates have informed that they have actively taken part in all of the items debates, fully presenting their positions and views.

During the press conference the delegation members also touched upon the misinformation spread by the Azerbaijani media, urging the Armenian media to refrain from doing it. The members of the delegation also answered journalists' questions.
