1 / 5

On May 19 the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, deputies, Charges d”Affaires of the Republic of Greece to RA Vasiliki Dikopulo, President of Union of the Greek NGOs in Armenia Arkady Khitarov, clergymen and representatives of Greek community visited Tsitsernakaberd. In the name of the legislative power of Armenia Mr Sharmazanov laid a wreath at the memorial of the Armenian Genocide.

Those present paid tribute in silence the memory of the innocent victims of the Genocide perpetrated towards the Greeks by Ottoman Turkey in the Asia Minor territory in 1923.

Condemning the crime organized in the Asia Minor territory by Ottoman Turkey at the beginning of the 20th century, the RA NA Deputy Speaker noted: “The Armenian authorities will do utmost in condemning internationally the Christian peoples’ Genocide. On April 24 the Armenian parliament called on the international community to condemn not only the Armenian, but also the Greek and Assyrian peoples’ Genocide. We should unite our efforts in this direction, because the denial of the Genocide is as dangerous, as perpetrating Genocide. In the 21st century the denial is as dangerous, and in this respect, I am grateful to our society that we are going to the internationally recognition and condemnation of the Genocide. There is no other way, and sooner or later Turkey should recognize the Genocide of the Armenians, Ponthos Greeks, Assyrians and other national minorities, because only by condemning, only by reconciling with its history Turkey can prove that it is bearer of European civilization, though I deeply doubt in it.”
