On February 22-23 the meeting of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Education, Culture and Civil Society of EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly will take place in Yerevan. It is for the first time that a meeting of the EURONEST PA is organized outside the European Parliament premises. This is a big achievement, and the result of outstanding team work of the Armenian delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, and from the parliaments of the European Parliament of Eastern Partnership countries, as well as the EU Advisory Group to Armenia
During the two-day meeting, among other issues, the Standing Committee will discuss two reports on Strengthening of Civil Society and Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion,” co-drafted by Artak Zakaryan, Co-Chair of Euronest PA Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Education, Culture and Civil Society and MEPs Elżbieta Katarzyna Lukacijewska and Iliana Malinova Iotova with the contribution of the Armenian Platform for Eastern Partnership the Civil Society Forum.
At the Co-Chairs’ proposal the Committee will have joint meetings with representatives of the Armenian Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum and Armenian Youth Parliament. During the meeting of the Committee high-rank Armenian officials and representatives of international organisations fulfilling their mission in the Republic of Armenia will deliver speeches and reports.
The Eastern Partner countries, as well as the delegation of the European Parliament have confirmed their participation in this event that will also include workshops on two EU Projects - "Masters in Human Rights and Democratisation" and “Health Recuperation Centre for Vayots Dzor Region for Vulnerable Groups of Scoiety.”
Due to direct support of the RA National Assembly and RA NA Speaker all the necessary works have been implemented to provide the regular procedure of the Committee works, in order to hold the Yerevan Meeting at proper level.
We'll mention that the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly was established in May 2011 as a Parliamentary component of the Eastern Partnership. Its main objective is to strengthen relations between the European Union and its Eastern European neighbours, currently presented in the Parliamentary Assembly: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
