Members of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of IRI Majlis in the Parliament

On May 12 Mr. Galust Sahakyan, Chiarman of the Armenia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and members of the group Ms. Naira Zohrabyan, Mr. Artyush Shahbazyan, Mr. Seryozha Abrahamyan, Mr. Volodya Badalyan, Mr. Sukias Avetisyan and Mr. Vahagn Makhsudyan met with the Chairman of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) Mr. Arsalan Fathipur, who was in Armenia on a three-day official visit and the members of the group Mr. Robert Beglaryan, Mr. Gevorg Vardan and others.

Welcoming the guests, Mr. Galust Sahakyan, Chairman of the Armenia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group highly praised the warm, friendly relations between the two countries. Mr. Sahakyan touched upon Mr. Serzh Sargsyan’s President of the Republic of Armenia, official visit to IRI and said that it has a great reflection in Armenia. In strengthening the mutual relations between the two countries Mr. Sahakyan highlighted the role of the parliament as well as the serious work done of the IRI Ambassador to Armenia.

Chairman of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) Mr. Arsalan Fathipur also considered the mutual relations of the two countries warm and friendly and said that they highlight the establishment of more practical relations in banking, insurance, tax and customs areas. There was proposed to create a working group and mutually promote the abolition of the obstacles.

Ms. Naira Zohrabyan, member of the Armenia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group said that the IRI for Armenia is a constant and reliable partner and it is necessary that the relationship enters a new stage. In this aspect, Ms. Zohrabyan considered favourably the present programs between Armenia and Iran - to build a railroad Iran-Armenia, HPS on the Araks River, etc. Ms. Zohrabyan reaffirmed Iran's right to peaceful use of nuclear energy and stressed the neutrality of the IRI, during the voting, at the 62nd session of the UN to the resolution of the Azerbaijani delegation on “The situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.” Besides the strengthening of trade - economic ties, Ms. Naira Zohrabyan also considered important the development and implementation of the bilateral scientific and educational programs.

Mr. Volodya Badalyan, member of the Armenia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group highly praised the assistance provided by Iran in the difficult years of our country. The Member of Parliament noticed that today the railway to Iran and the construction of the oil refinery is highlighted.

Mr. Armen Rustamyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly, received the members of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Armenia Seid Ali Saghaian attended the meeting.

Highly praising the current level of friendly inter-state relations, Mr. Rustamyan expressed confidence that the balanced and constructive policy of Iran, as well as the Armenian-Iranian cooperation contribute to peace and stability in the region.

According to Mr. Rustamyan, Iran should play an important role in resolving regional problems, which emanates from the interests of all countries in the region. In the aspect of deepening the relations between the two countries Mr. Armen Rustamyan highlighted the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, mutual visits and cooperation in international structures.

The Chairman of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) Mr. Arsalan Fathipur, considered necessary the strengthening of the mutual cooperation between the parliaments and the two countries, stressing the importance of friendly relations of the both countries in the regional aspect. He believes that regional conflicts and problems should be solved only by the countries of the region. It was noted that the political and economic ties between two countries are strengthening and the inter-parliamentary friendship is deepened.

During the meeting the sides also discussed the Armenian-Turkish relations and other issues of mutual interest.

On the same day, the members of the Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of Majlis of the IRI visited Tsitsernakaberd, the Genocide Memorial, where they laid wreaths and paid a minute's silence to a half million innocent casualties.

The members of the Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group also visited the museum of the Armenian Genocide, and familiarized themselves with the documents and exhibits on the tragedy of the Armenians in 1915-1923.

The Chairman of Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) Mr. Arsalan Fathipur, made some notes in the book of honorable guests: “The Armenian nation has experienced many difficulties and troubles in its history, I hope, the future for the Armenian nation will be without any tragedies and the Armenian people will live in tranquility and peace.”

Mr. Robert Beglaryan, member of the Iran-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group of Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said that: “The Armenians in Iran did their utmost to make the Iranian people aware of the Armenian Genocide. We also will do everything for the Iranian Parliament to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Every year in various communities of Iran, especially in Tehran and Isfahan, ceremonies are organized, dedicated to the innocent victims of Armenian Genocide. Iranian students, and professionals participate in it. Processions are jointly organized. The Iranian people have great sympathy of the Armenians.”
