WB Representatives in the National Assembly

Mr. Armen Ashotyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport of the National Assembly met with Dr. Juan Manuel Moreno, Senior Education Specialist at the Education Network of the World Bank and Mr. Alexan Hovhannisyan, Executive of Education of World Bank Yerevan Office.

Touching upon the aim of the visit, Mr. Juan Manuel Moreno said that the second educational credit program, prepared by the WB, which included the educational systems from colleges to higher schools and which was submitted to the standing committee in September of this year, hasn’t undergone essential changes.

He believed that it would be expedient for the second program to be realized from November of the forthcoming year in order to provide the continuation of the first program. According to him it would have been better if the National Assembly promotes and adopts the program up to November.

Mr. Armen Ashotyan, Chairman of the Committee, thanking for the voluminous work done, said that the committee will promote the program to be approved as far as it is possible.

Mr. Ashotyan also touched upon the negative phenomena, present in the educational system, pointing out the corruption in the higher educational system and proposed to have anti-corruption steps in the program.

There was a touch upon the RA draft law on General Education. Mr. Ashotyan said that parliament has adopted the draft for the first reading and held parliamentary hearings. It was also noted that the bill would be fully adopted in the beginning of the forthcoming educational year and it would be possible to present the educational program.
