Draft proposes to ratify Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure Charter
1 / 1

The initiative proposes to ratify the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). According to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Armen Ghazaryan, the coalition is a global partnership aimed at improving the resilience of infrastructure systems to climate change and disaster risk management.

“This is also interconnected with the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction,” the Deputy Minister added.

The initiator of the idea of creating the platform is India. It is planned to develop sectoral capacities through technical assistance, research and joint training. Armenia’s joining the platform was highlighted in order to localize international best practices.

“The history of mankind has shown that the best way to overcome climate disasters and eliminate their consequences is cooperation, involvement and mutual assistance of different states,” the co-rapporteur, MP Kristine Poghosyan underlined.

The draft was debated at the sitting of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security and was endorsed on September 5.
