On February 15, the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan participated in the Conference titled Science and Technology: Addressing Armenia’s Challenges organized by the Gituzh (Power of Science) Initiative.
Welcoming the participants of the Forum, the NA Vice President highlighted the discussions in such format, during which an opportunity is given to the representatives of scientific and technological communities for voicing their problems.
“Today, in the context of rapid changes taking place in the world, new challenges and new strategic priorities are emerging in different countries. Naturally, In Armenia, relevant sectoral, dynamic work is being carried out to address such challenges,” Hakob Arshakyan said, during the panel discussion on the topic Science and technology: strategic vision and goals.
As Head of the Executive body of the Science and Technology Development Council under the leadership of the RA Prime Minister, the NA Vice President presented the work done by the Council. He informed that 8 work groups were formed, in which about 70 sectoral specialists, entrepreneurs of the science sector, authoritative persons from Armenia and Diaspora were involved: the goal is to promote the development of the scientific-technological sector.
Hakob Arshakyan presented details of the programs aimed at developing 5 branches (artificial intelligence/AI and machine learning, microelectronics, advanced robotics and aerospace, quantum technologies, biotechnology and life sciences) containing components from the spheres of education, science and industry.
He stressed that the harmonious development of education, science, and industry can lead to rapid development, which plays an important role in increasing the competitiveness, security, and standard of living of the state: “Our goal is to support the development of science in Armenia through joint efforts,” the NA Vice President said, emphasizing the necessity for the interconnected development of education, science, and industry.
State funding for the high-tech sector has increased about 5 times in the last five years.
Our task is to help the Government distribute funds as efficiently as possible, contributing to the sustainable development of the sector.
Hakob Arshakyan answered the questions of the representatives of the scientific community. Reference was made to industrial innovation, steps aimed at developing the military industry, academic scientific researches, and public-private cooperation.
In the process of elaborating sectoral legislative initiatives, the cooperation of the executive, legislative, and scientific communities was emphasized.
