The RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan gave a speech at the opening of the 10th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union , particularly noting: “I welcome the Conference held in the Republic of Armenia and I wish to the Conference to be fruitful. There is a conceptual question which I wish to share with you. Young people’s activity in politics, and young people’s entry into politics is essential and understandable. But I do have a conceptual question regarding the expression ‘young parliamentarian,’ because according to my perception, a parliamentarian is a parliamentarian. Young, middle aged or senior – they have one mandate, same authority as the senior parliamentarians. It is important to note that in politics the entry of the young people should be importantly safeguarded, but once they are in parliament, at least metaphorically, they stop being young, that’s an indication of a certain political maturity. And I do highlight this consideration.”
The Prime Minister touched upon the key issues to be discussed in the Conference – education, poverty, employment, in this context especially underscored the important role of education.
“There is no problem the solution to which skips education, and vice versa, there is no problem, the origin of which is not linked with the lack or gaps of education or the low quality of education. We are discussing poverty, which is a global challenge, it’s a challenge in the Republic of Armenia as well, we have been criticized much for this. But it’s my belief that one of the determinants of poverty, one of the reasons is hidden in education. The education systems that exist for objective and subjective reasons, cause schoolchildren, children, also later the students not to gain sufficient skills to be competitive in life,” Nikol Pashinyan said, then referring to the problem of unemployment.
