We consistently deepen the relations with the member countries of the European Union especially during the last period. The launch of the dialogue on the RA-EU visa liberalisation was of key importance, which, surely will give new impetus to the stable interaction of Armenia with the EU member countries: The Deputy Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan said, welcoming the delegation led by the Mayor of Naumburg Armin Müller in parliament. The meeting took place on August 6, in which the member of the RA NA Armenia-Germany Friendship Group, the deputy of the Armenia Faction Lilit Galstyan also took part.

Rustam Bakoyan touched upon the violated rights of more than over a hundred thousand Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh because of the ethnic cleansing committed by Azerbaijan and their protection. Presenting the support programmes being implemented by the Government for our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh, the Deputy Chair of the Committee underscored that in the fulfillment of the long-term programmes Armenia expects the international partners’ support.

Lilit Galstyan noted that since 2020 difficult times have been for Armenia, and the visit with such authoritative delegation members to Armenia witnesses that the Armenians are not alone. She highly appreciated the cooperation with Armavir Marz. Speaking about the security of the region, the challenges facing Armenia, the MP raised the issue of the international partners’ support to the return of the people displaced from Nagorno Karabakh to their native home.

“Armenia and Germany have long-term friendship relations. I greatly highlight the dynamic development of the Armenian-German relations and cooperation in all spheres,” Rustam Bakoyan underlined.

The Deputy Chair of the Committee informed that the Government of Armenia presented the Crossroads of Peace project for the establishment of long-term peace and stability in the region. He valued the role of Germany in the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, as well as in strengthening of peace in the region.

As a representative of the national minority, Rustam Bakoyan mentioned that in January of the last year the German Bundestag adopted the resolution condemning the genocide perpetrated in Sinjar in 2014, underlining that it is of historical importance for the Yazidi people.

Thanking the MPs of Armenia for warm reception, the Mayor of Naumburg Armin Müller stated that the collaboration between the two countries is of key significance. As he presented, Naumburg actively cooperates with the city of Armavir, programmes of exchange of experience in a number of spheres are tried to be fulfilled.

The RA Honorary Consul in Saxony-Anhalt Landtag Michael Schmidt informed that they had a series of meetings in Armenia and stressed that the Saxony-Anhalt Landtag is next to the Armenian people. He emphasized the establishment and enhancement of peace.
