At the sitting of June 13, the National Assembly debated the issue of electing a candidate for the judge of the Judicial Staff of Corruption Crime Investigation of Anti-Corruption Chamber of Court of Cassation.
The Supreme Judicial Council nominated Armen Danielyan, Rubik Mkhitaryan and Manvel Shahverdyan for the above-mentioned vacancy.
The NA Vice President Ruben Rubinyan, moderating the sitting, reminded that the National Assembly should elect a candidate for the judge of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation among the 3 candidates.
The Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Karen Andreasyan presented the biographical data and the work activities of the candidates.
On May 3, 2024, the candidate for the judge of the Court of Cassation Armen Danielyan was elected a member of the judge of the Supreme Judicial Council by the General Assembly of the RA Judges.
“In the course of my work as a judge in the judicial system, while administering justice, I have tried and will try to protect and strengthen the authority of the judiciary as much as possible,” the rapporteur underlined. Turning to the question of claiming a high position, the candidate said: “It is no secret that in the fight against corruption and in the effective implementation of justice in that area, the performance of the functions assigned by law to the relevant chamber of the Court of Cassation of our country is of key importance. If given the opportunity, I want to participate and contribute to the effective implementation of justice in that area, applying my knowledge, experience and professional skills.”
The next candidate for the judge of the Court of Cassation Rubik Mkhitaryan has been a judge of the Criminal Court of Appeal since 2016.
“It is obvious that the effective fight against corruption is one of the key achievements of modern democratic states, the results of which are practically the basis for the full formation and realization of the legal state and its principles and, in particular, from of viewpoint of ensuring the supremacy of human rights,” the rapporteur underscored.
The third candidate nominated by the Supreme Judicial Council Manvel Shahverdyan has been a judge of the First Instance of General Jurisdiction Criminal Court of Yerevan since 2023.
The rapporteur noted that as a judge he is currently dealing with the decisions made by the Court of Cassation. Manvel Shahverdyan emphasized that many years of work experience, knowledge and professional abilities can be used to effectively implement the functions of the Court of Cassation.
