On May 21, the Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan met with the young specialists of the Parliamentary Internship and Fellowship Program of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
Rustam Bakoyan presented to the guests the spheres being in the areas of activity of the Committee, the functions and noted that the legislative body also has control functions.
In response to the question on cooperation of the RA Human Rights’ Office and Committee, Rustam Bakoyan noted that the Committee is in direct contact, and both try to understand the emerged problems and find solutions for them.
Speaking about the work being done by the office of the Human Rights Defender, the MP underscored that it works independently and relaxed, which the international experts and organizations also record.
The young people were also interested in the problems regarding the delimitation and demarcation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the engagement of the representatives of national minority in different institutions, as well as the positive and negative sides of the enlargement of communities populated by national minorities.
Reference was made to media literacy, particularly the freedom of speech and combating hate speech.
