Andranik Kocharyan: After 44-day war Armenia has taken a course which is aimed at reaching peace in the region

On April 30, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Andranik Kocharyan received the Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces, as well as the European Affairs Committee of the Senate of the Republic of France Ronan Le Gleut.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Armenia Olivier Decottignies also took part in the meeting.

Welcoming the guests, Andranik Kocharyan highly assessed the cooperation formed between the parliamentarians of Armenia and France, noting that many security problems were solved thanks to the support shown by France. The Committee Chair underscored the cooperation of high level existing on the international different platforms with the parliamentary delegations of France.

Thanking Andranik Kocharyan for the meeting, the Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces of the Senate of France Ronan Le Gleut informed that in the framework of his mission on May 7 he will submit a special report, according to which, the European Union will adopt a special resolution. “Our goal is to facilitate the activity of the European Peace Facility (EPF). And for the first time in the history of the European Union they will show support to Armenia,” he noted.

In this context a number of issues of bilateral interest were discussed. Andranik Kocharyan touched upon the regional problems, the efforts for reaching long-lasting peace in the region, the delimitation process being carried out in the northern part of the country, the cooperation between Armenia and France in the defense sphere and the designed programmes.

“After the 44-day war Armenia has taken a course, which is aimed at reaching peace in the region. After the war making reality such problem underwent in difficult procedure, and at this moment Armenia launched the solution of the delimitation and demarcation problems in the northern part, taking into consideration that there was huge resistance by the adversary for dealing with the issues on those problems,” Andranik Kocharyan noted.

He emphasized the cooperation with France and other countries in the defense sphere and the availability of the army with new quality in our country. “We must have an army with new quality, and it is aimed at ensuring peace for defending the territorial integrity,” the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security particularly said.
