The Development of Armenology is a Key Problem

On April 4, on the initiative of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth,  the hearings  related to the key problems of  teaching  the armenology subjects were held. The MPs, Ministers, representatives of the education and science participated in the hearings. 

    
The Chair of the Committee, Hranush Hakobyan, informed  that on the initiative of the faction ARF and by active participation of other group and factions the debates of the bills on Scientific and Scientific Technical Activity, on Higher and Post Specialized Education and on  proposing Amendments and Addenda  to the RA Laws on Education, related to the key problems of teaching  the armenology subjects have begun  in the National Assembly, and the presents were urged to have active participation with their proposals and remarks and to promote the amendments of the bills, which referred to armenology problems.


   Sergo Yeritzyan, Minister of the Ministry of Education and Science, noted that though the new educational system is in function and corresponds to the national school criteria, the Ministry is ready to active response and amend the educational system if there is a necessity of doing amendments promoting the development of armenology. He informed on the competition of the textbooks of Armenian language and Literature and expressed his concern for not active participation and  not  using  national full potential. Mr. Yeritzyan also touched upon the current condition of the educational amendments, talked on high school to become specialized, on creating Armenology centers and on necessity of deepening educational and cultural ties with Diaspora.  

    
By the estimation of Vahan Hovhannisyan it’s distinct and evident that the human existence is conditioned with nations and the national self survival with the development of national self conscience. Mr. Hovhannisyan was sorry for we do not consider us creators of the history, though we should be more consistent and make the development of armenology as a key problem.

   Silva Achoyan, Deputy Head of Education and Science Department at the Municipality Administration, ensured that we should enliven our spiritual Armenia. Mrs. Achoyan proposed some points of the educational system  to be reviewed and Armenian literature and Armenian history to be involved in the list of final subjects as obligatory examination subjects.

   By the assurance of Azat Yeghiazaryan, director of the Institute of Literature affiliated with the Armenian Academy of Sciences, it is impossible to imagine armenology and Armenian education without Armenian literature. Mr. Yeghiazarayn also proposed the subject of Armenian  Literature  to be included in the list of examination subjects.


  
Suren Zolyan, Rector of Yerevan State Linguistic University after V. Brusov, noted that the problem can’t be solved only by  increasing the hours of the armenology subjects and making them examination subjects. It is necessary to provide  quality of  methodical elaborations and to be consistent. In current high technology period it is necessary to pass to electronic system.


  
By the estimation of the MP Levon Mkrtchyan, the armenology is not only a science but also an educational criteria, so the armenology subjects i.e. Armenian language and Armenian  literature, Armenian history and history of Armenian religion should be taught separately with appropriate level of training and hours.

   Ashot Melkonyan,  NAS Armenian history. Director, noted that he wasn’t inspired by the educational system as it was adapted to European educational system and the establishment of armenology center was needless, even dangerous. A certain section of the program should also refer to traditional orthography and Western Armenian.

   By the estimation of the MP Galust Sahakyan, we have the problem of creating a strong state, the pathway of which is the school. 
                                                                                           

   Also other speeches and proposals were sounded, where the armenology  problems were observed from the standpoint of national security. The armenology education is considered as one of the priority problems of the school. Also high salary and special attitude towards the teachers, teaching armenology subjects, were  proposed.  
  

Hranush Hakobyan, Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth and  Sergo Yeritzyan, Minister of the Ministry of Education and Science, in their final speeches assured that the proposals and remarks should be taken into consideration in both and legislative and executive activities of  educational amendments.
