On September 28, the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Taguhi Tovmasyan touched upon the situation created in Armenia during the meeting with the former Deputy Mayor of The Hague Marjolein de Jong and the Representative of the International Cooperation Division at D66 Party Mies Bos.
“Today, in the border regions the residents have the most elementary problem of the right to life and to live in peace,” Taguhi Tovmasyan said. The MP noted that in those parts the normal life is disrupted, the schools and kindergartens do not function: for security considerations the children were moved to other settlements.
At the meeting Taguhi Tovmasyan referred to the Nagorno Karabakh problem and the anti-Armenian policy being pursued by the Azerbaijani-Turkish tandem. Speaking about 44-day war, she informed the delegates that there are missing persons, and Azerbaijan banned their search, and until now there are captives being held in Azerbaijan.
At the guests’ request Taguhi Tovmasyan presented the functions of the Committee led by her, particularly, related to the issues of the protection of women’s rights and the problems of the media.
At the end of the meeting Marjolein de Jong and Mies Bos underlined that after leaving Armenia they will prepare a report on the basis of the mentioned facts, which will be submitted to the Dutch Parliament and to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
