The Road Police Service of the RA Police elaborated legislative initiative, where among other problems, it is designed to settle also the issues on alternative vehicles. On July 27, during the work discussion, related to the organization of the alternative vehicle means traffic in the city of Yerevan, organized by the deputies of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Vilen Gabrielyan and Zaruhi Batoyan, it became known about this,

The discussion was conditioned by the concerning and problematic issue for the community, the use of the electric scooters, self-rollers on the sidewalks of the city, the fact of their non-regulation, as most of the participants were noting, often becomes a reason for the pedestrians receiving bodily injuries of different characters.

Deputies, importers of alternative vehicles, representatives of the companies being involved with the organization of the abovementioned activity, representatives from Yerevan municipality took part in the discussion.

According to the member of the NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security Vilen Gabrielyan, today the issue of the alternative vehicles is rather problematic, and the discussion aims at raising the problems and solve them by coordinating. “Today our goal is to listen more practical proposals and understand what proposals can urgently settle that issue. I think there will be proposals, which will be a subject of legislative regulation, and we’ll work in that direction,” the deputy Zaruhi Batoyan added.

Almost all the speakers recorded that there is a problem in reality, and the alternative vehicles should be driven on the special marked parts of the streets, but not on the sidewalks, as it is elementally done. In case of driving on the sidewalks they should be distinctly separated. According to the voiced proposals, it is also necessary to restrict or regulate the riders’ age threshold, as it done in the countries of great experience in such vehicle traffic. It is necessary solve the issue of their parking, as well as not to let to be more than one person on one vehicle. It was proposed to distinctly regulate where and in what speed one can ride these vehicles. There was a proposal to study the experience of other countries and organize a discussion for that purpose.

Summing up the discussion, Vilen Gabrielyan and Zaruhi Batoyan noted that the voiced proposals would be considered and in case of being considered expedient they will be included in the legislative package elaborated by the Road Police. “We’ll try to move this discussion in more effective way in order to have tangible results,” Vilen Gabrielyan underlined.

The participants of the discussion expressed readiness to support the settlement of the problem within the framework of their powers.
